Foundation and Early Years
The club was founded on February 27, 1900, by a group of eleven football players led by Franz John. The team played its first game on March 4, 1900, against a team called 1. Münchner FC 1896 and won 5-2. From the beginning, the club struggled financially and had to rely on donations to purchase basic equipment such as balls and jerseys.
First Championship
Despite the financial difficulties, Bayern Munich quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in German football. In 1903, the club won its first championship, the Süddeutsche Meisterschaft, which was a regional competition. Bayern Munich continued to dominate regional football for the next few years, winning the championship in 1904, 1905, 1906, and 1907.
Olympiastadion
In 1926, Bayern Munich moved to its current home, the Olympiastadion in Munich. The stadium was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics and is still used by the club today. In the 1930s, Bayern Munich struggled both on and off the field due to the economic and political turmoil in Germany at the time. The club was forced to merge with another local club, Turn- und Sportverein München von 1860, in 1932. The resulting club, known as TSV 1860 Munich, played in the German top flight until 1965 when it was relegated.
