The cast of B99 standing

Of course, you have Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago, Captain Holt and Terry, Gina and Charles, Rosa and Hitchcock-Scully, but there have been numerous iconic and recurring characters in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine universe that haven’t been credited enough.

From a man-eating friend to a literal psychopath, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine universe is filled with iconic and memorable characters that fans have been loving for years. These so-called “Unsung Heroes” of the sitcom have made very few appearances on the TV show, but these ‘rare’ appearances were enough to forever etch them in the B99 sketch book.

Without further ado, here’s a list of all the ‘Unsung Heroes’ of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Is your favorite character in the list? Read on to find out.

7.) Bill Hummertrout

Boyle and Bill standing side-by-side

Portrayed by Winston Story, the character of Bill Hummertrout was introduced in the 4th season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Although fans might not know him as Bill, he was the doppelgänger of Charles Boyle. Working in NutriBoom for a while, Bill is constantly hired by Jake Peralta for the Halloween Heists or to simply mess with Charles Boyle’s brain.

Being one of the weirder characters out there, Bill was a former pr*stitute who used to give neck massages from the front while maintaining eye contact. Appearing for a total of 6 episodes throughout the show, Bill Hummertrout found much love and fame from all over the world.

6.) Kevin Cozner

Kevin and Holt talking

The husband of Captain Raymond Holt, Kevin Cozner, was the life of the party (quite literally). Introduced back in Season One in an episode called “The Party”, Kevin Cozner’s humor, professor talks, and his love for Captain Holt made the couple adorable and lovable to the core.

Appearing in a total of 16 episodes throughout the show, Kevin Cozner made a name for himself as the calm, sophisticated, and often emotional side of Captain Holt, and his contribution also gave rise to some iconic moments in the show, like “Pain. That’s it”.

5.) Caleb John Gosche (The Cannibal)

Caleb looking with a smile

Probably one of the most out-of-pocket characters in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine universe, Caleb John Gosche is also known as The Cannibal in the series. Being Jake Peralta’s cellmate during his time in season 5 at Jericho Supermax Prison, Caleb has a very nonchalant demeanor as he casually says that he is serving 3 life sentences on account of cannibalism.

However, befriending Jake, Caleb appears for a total of 4 episodes throughout the entire series, but is also one of the funniest characters in the show. From jokingly biting Jake Peralta’s arm as a means of scaring him to talking about gory things as if they were normal, Caleb became the fans’ favorite cannibal throughout just the four episodes that he starred in.

4.) Cheddar

The goodest boy in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheddar Holt-Cozner, is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi owned by Captain Holt and Kevin. Cheddar is the cutest side character in the B99 universe and often gets into shenanigans (mainly due to Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago’s allergy).

Although getting kidnapped and ransomed was not part of the plan, Cheddar’s acting and his playful energy (especially his contribution in the Halloween Heists) set it apart from all the other side characters. Appearing only for a total of 9 episodes, there’s no better boy than Cheddar.

3.) Madeline Wuntch

Often seen as the bad captain who was always opposing Raymond Holt, Madeline Wuntch, and Capt. Holt had a certain chemistry in Brooklyn Nine-Nine that was quite iconic. The usage of dark humor and Wuntch’s sly remarks on Capt. Holt had some of the funniest moments in the show.

Even Raymond Holt saying “The Wuntch is dead” when Madeline Wuntch dies in the show makes for a moment of riotous laughter instead of sadness. Because of her chemistry with Capt. Holt, Madeline Wuntch, is the third-most favorite ‘Unsung Hero’ of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

2.) Adrian Pimento

The former fiancé of Rosa Diaz, Adrian Pimento, was portrayed by Jason Mantzoukas across 13 episodes of the show. From his unhinged dialogues and chaotic movements (and a danger to himself), Adrian Pimento is by far one of the funniest characters in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

An element of pure chaos and man-child energy, Adrian Pimento was both a gentleman and a coked-up druggie at the same time. Despite only appearing for 13 episodes, there was an unkempt energy that appeared on the screen whenever Adrian Pimento dropped by. Naturally, Pimento is the second-most favorite in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

1.) Doug Judy

Doug Judy and Jake Peralta looking at each other

The best for the last. Doug Judy was the Pontiac Bandit whom Jake Peralta had apprehended, worked together with, and had been fooled by. Doug Judy is the arch-nemesis of Jake Peralta, but is also his “best friend”.

With only 9 episodes to his name, Doug Judy’s episodes were always filled with high-stakes missions, dapper music, style, foolish camaraderie, and hilarious jokes and banter between Peralta and Judy.

Although being a side character, Doug Judy cemented his place in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine universe as one of the finest “Unsung Heroes” in the B99 Universe.
